Borussia Dortmund’s Raphael Guerreiro Signs with Bayern Munich: Will He Succeed or Follow in The Footsteps of Former Players?

Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund again have to see his players move to a rival team Bayern Munich. This time Raphael Guerreiro.

Guerreiro has decided not to extend his stay at Signal-Iduna Park. He wanted to find a new challenge after seven years in the Dortmund uniform.

Guerreiro was heavily rumored to be joining Atletico Madrid to be closer to his hometown in Portugal. However, Atletico got a tough competitor, namely Bayern.

In its development, Bayern turned out to be more intense in establishing contact with Guerreiro. After discussing for four days, Bayern reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Guerreiro, Thursday (8/6/2023) early morning WIB or Wednesday evening local time.

According to a report by Sky Germany, Guerreiro will be on a three-year contract with Bayern and will undergo a medical next week to finalize his move.

This rumor will certainly hurt the Dortmund camp, which has repeatedly seen its former players move to Bavaria. Moreover, Guerreiro was part of the Dortmund squad that failed to win the Bundesliga this season, because they were overtaken by Bayern in the last week.

Before Guerreiro, there were top names such as Robert Lewandowski, Mats Hummels, Mario Goetze and Mathias Sammer who were signed by Bayern from Dortmund. Lewandowski and Hummels even roamed in titles while in Bayern uniforms. Will Guerreiro suffer the same fate as Lewandowski or fail like Goetze?

We’ll have to wait because the competition for Bayern’s left-back position is quite fierce, considering that Alphonso Davies is already there. Raphael Guerreiro made 40 goals and 50 assists in 224 matches with Dortmund and became the second free player to be signed by Bayern after Konrad Lainmer (RB Leipzig).
