Borussia Dortmund Interested in Former Feyenoord Youth Player Ian Maatsen for Transfer

A nice step beckons for former Feyenoord youth player Ian Maatsen: Borussia Dortmund is specifically in the market for the left back, who was close to a switch to Feyenoord a year and a half ago. He chose at the time eventually for an adventure at Burnley.

The Rotterdam club was concrete for Maatsen in mid-2022. Later that summer he moved on loan from Chelsea to Burnley, where he achieved great success. Since then, the Vlaardingen native has developed rapidly.

His current club Chelsea was recently informed of concrete interest from Dortmund through a letter of interest. Maatsen himself is already almost personally settled and things also seem to be going well between Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea.

Chelsea wants to cooperate in a transfer of Maatsen, who could not yet count on much playing time in London. The intention is that the multifunctional left back will eventually be seen in yellow and black for several seasons.

No details are yet known about a structure or a transfer fee, but given Dortmund’s financial resources and position it will not be illogical if Maatsen is rented this winter and is bought at a later time by the current number 5 of the Bundesliga.

In the event of a permanent transfer, Feyenoord will not receive a solidarity contribution for Maatsen, who played for the Rotterdam team in the youth team until the summer of 2013. He then made the transfer-free transfer to Sparta Rotterdam and managed to find his way to Chelsea via PSV.

After loans to Charlton Athletic, Coventry City and Burnley FC, Maatsen is ready for the next step in his career. He is out of contract with Chelsea at the end of 2025. Transfer market estimates the current transfer value of the left back at twenty million euros.
