The Vienna Stock Exchange should start trading on Friday with price gains. Half an hour before the start of the meeting, an indicator on the domestic leading index ATX signaled an increase of 0.30 percent. The German DAX and the Euro-Stoxx-50 are also expected to be slightly positive.
The guidelines were also friendly: in the USA the Nasdaq Composite even closed at a new record high the day before, and friendly stock market signals also came from the Far East. However, market participants are likely to remain cautious for the time being – in the course of the morning the purchasing managers’ indices for August for Germany, France, Great Britain and the euro zone will be published. The leading indicators could then provide trend-setting impulses.
On Thursday the ATX closed 0.86 percent weaker at 2,199.91 points. The market was burdened by weak sentiment on the leading European stock exchanges, with the ATX suffering its fifth day of losses in six sessions. Negative economic data from the USA and disappointing signals from the US Federal Reserve put pressure on sentiment.
Some companies had presented figures: FACC closed at a discount of 2.5 percent. The corona-related crisis in aviation is having a hard time affecting the Upper Austrian aviation supplier. Mayr-Melnhof also fell by 2.6 percent after half-year results. UNIQA shares, on the other hand, rose 1.4 percent after the results were presented.
