Börse Express – Raiffeisen Technologie-Aktien: Advantage through technology

Video conferences, cashless mobile payment, online conferences and health apps – in retrospect, what was only in the starting blocks before Corona has now become part of our everyday life. And nobody expects that the partly positive sides of it will (hopefully) disappear again in the post-Corona era like the virus. Areas such as software and semiconductors, which are indispensable for digitization, will also have above-average growth rates in 2021 and beyond. Artificial intelligence (AI), data analysis, the Internet of Things and cloud services are already classic growth segments, which the corona crisis only brought an additional growth spurt.

In any case, there is no end in sight to the trend. Because what we often subsume abstractly under the term digitization means a profound, often long-term revolution for many industries. The mere fact that Austria’s health care system – and not only in this country – is still primarily set up in an analogue way shows that the development is far from over. In addition, there is the mobility turnaround, driven by environmental aspects, which, in addition to alternative drives and energy sources, also includes autonomous driving. Other mega-trends that close the gap between technology companies and traditional industrial groups are the Internet of Things and Industry 4.0.

Investors can already see that the choice of the right individual investment is not easy – not everyone at school received broad and at the same time deep knowledge in the field of technology – or acquired them professionally.

One way to outsource these investment decisions is to use a fund vehicle. One of the representatives that has been on the market for some time is the Raiffeisen Technologie-Aktien Fonds, which was launched in 2002. As the name suggests, this is an equity fund that primarily invests worldwide in stocks of companies in the technology sector. These primarily include companies that develop, manufacture and / or sell products or services in connection with software and hardware, IT accessories, telecommunications and semiconductors. The fund is particularly suitable for investors who want to take advantage of the long-term earnings opportunities of the technology industry and who are aware of the associated risks, such as increased price fluctuations. One of the reasons why the recommended investment period is ten years.

We asked fund manager Bernd Kiegler what other reasons also play a role, how and where the fund management looks for the right investments – more on the following page.
