NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) – After the recent record hunt for some US indices, the New York stock exchanges practically stepped on the spot in early Wednesday trading. The leading index Dow Jones Industrial
hovered around breakeven in the first half hour of trading, most recently it was just under 0.01 percent above it at 35,370.77 points. Investors waited before the annual central bank symposium.

The recently record-high broader US indices did a tad better: The S&P 500 moved slightly with 0.09 percent in the plus at 4490.46 points. New records were only set on the Nasdaq stock exchange, albeit with little momentum. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 last rose there by 0.11 percent to 15,374.60 meters.

The central debate among investors revolves around the monetary policy outlook. This is one of the reasons why they are looking forward to what the monetary authorities will discuss. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell wants to speak on Friday. On the one hand, a tightening of the market is considered possible this year, on the other hand, the delta variant of the coronavirus is currently causing concern again as a brake on the economy./tih/jha/
