NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) – The good performance of the US stock markets continued on Wednesday compared to the previous day. Ahead of Thursday’s Thanksgiving holiday and Friday’s shortened trading day, however, there are far fewer investors than usual at the start. Many stockbrokers therefore remain somewhat cautious about the sustainability of the continued recovery movement, especially after the minutes of the last central bank meeting will be published later in the day.

Recent economic data has been mixed, with a particular focus on purchasing managers’ (PMI) sentiment in the US manufacturing sector. It was weaker than expected in November and also signals a decline in production. Furthermore, the PMI for the services sector was still slightly weaker than expected, which in sum should raise hopes that the US Federal Reserve may be more cautious with its future rate hikes. On the consumer side, however, the mood in November improved more than expected, as illustrated in a second estimate by Consumer Climate determined by the University of Michigan./ck/nas
