NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) – The US stock exchanges continued to give way at the end of a very weak week on Friday. Almost an hour after the start of trading, the leading index Dow Jones Industrial fell
by 0.50 percent to 30,623.09 points, heading for a weekly minus of 2.8 percent. For the market-wide S&P 500 it went down 0.35 percent to 3771.96 points. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 lost 0.36 percent to 11,462.73 points – on a weekly basis there is a loss of 5.3 percent.
The day before, the three stock market barometers had left trading with historically high price discounts for the first half of the year. Many investors around the world have lost interest in shares in view of rising interest rates and concerns about a possible impending recession./gl/men
