Börse Express – Germany: Inflation rises surprisingly

video-tag-article">

General inflation in Germany rose surprisingly in June. Consumer prices were 0.9 percent higher than a year earlier, as the Federal Statistical Office announced on Monday in Wiesbaden. In May the price increase rate was 0.6 percent. Analysts had expected this value on average for June as well. In a monthly comparison, the price level rose by 0.6 percent.

The harmonized consumer price index HICP, which is decisive for the monetary policy of the European Central Bank, was 0.8 percent above the previous year’s level and 0.7 percent above the level of the previous month. The ECB’s medium-term target for the entire eurozone is just under two percent. The goal has not been achieved for a long time ./bgf/jkr/jha/
