BRUSELAS, 15 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, has congratulated the economist Mohamed Mustafa on his appointment as Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority at a “critical moment of great suffering for the Palestinian people.”
“We look forward to continuing our cooperation with the new Government, including to address the tragic situation in Gaza, and to work on key reforms to strengthen democratic and governance institutions, for the benefit of the Palestinian people in the West Bank and Gaza,” he stated in a statement.
Borrell recalled that “the Palestinian Authority is and continues to be an important partner of the European Union”, while he also indicated that the European club will continue to be “an important donor” in order to “promote the construction of the Palestinian State through a negotiated two-state solution.
Finally, he expressed his gratitude to outgoing Prime Minister Mohamad Shtayé – who resigned in the midst of the Israeli military offensive on the Gaza Strip – for his mandate and his work in promoting relations with the EU.
With extensive international experience in global institutions, he has worked for fifteen years for the World Bank. Mustafa, 69, is the current president of the Palestine Investment Fund and an independent member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
