Coric, 25, made his Dubai debut in 2015. Coric made an impressive debut as he reached the Dubai semifinals before losing to former world No. 1 Roger Federer.
Coric returned to Dubai the following year but failed to impress as he lost in the round of 16. Coric did not play in Dubai in 2017 but returned to the event in 2018 and reached the quarterfinals. Coric also returned to Dubai in 2019, reaching his second semi-final at the tournament before losing to Federer again.
Coric delays his comeback
Coric, who underwent shoulder surgery last May, was aiming to make his comeback in Australia earlier this year. Coric was one of the first players to land in Australia but ultimately decided against participating in events that took place in Australia last month.
“Hey guys! Unfortunately, my shoulder isn’t quite ready to compete over five sets, so my team and I have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the Australian Open,” Coric announced in an Instagram post just days before the start of the Australian Open.
“I’m very close to being 100 per cent and came to Australia with every intention of making my comeback, but I want to make sure I’m not rushing anything in the final stages of my recovery process.
Thank you for your support.” Coric will now go a full year without a match, having not played since March last year. Coric reached the Rotterdam semifinals in early March 2021.
After that, Coric took a break to treat his injured shoulder. Two months later, Coric decided to have surgery. Coric played a total of three tournaments in 2021. It remains to be seen when Coric will be ready for his return. Photo Credit: Getty Images
