More than a week has passed since the devastating earthquakes in Turkey, and rescuers are still trying to find people alive under the rubble.
“Every day it becomes calmer, but fatigue is taking its toll and we are still a little more apathetic,” said the head of the Bulgarian rescue teams in Turkey, Krasen Georgiev, in the “Day ON AIR” studio and emphasized that he could not forget the views from Turkey.
“Our work is a little more specific. Our goal was to use rescue dogs to mark certain places where there might be living people. We worked with pre-collected information where there were such expectations. Thanks to our dogs, 6 living people were proven to be found We managed to intervene in time during several golden days – a period in which people have a great chance to survive, and we were in the right place at the right time,” Georgiev told Bulgaria ON AIR.
According to him, finding people alive from here on is a miracle. Georgiev noted that the situation they found themselves in was organized chaos, but people were constantly being taken out alive.
“When you see that such long-term efforts yield results, the feeling of satisfaction is unimaginable. It has been proven that everything we do has a huge meaning,” Georgiev is emphatic.
He said that the Bulgarian rescue teams were received extremely well in every direction, and the local people took care of everyone.
“We were first assigned to Adana, where there was a known number of fallen buildings. The city itself looked uninhabited because everyone was sleeping on the streets, in their cars. It took relatively little time to go around and check everything,” pointed out Georgiev.
