GERB’s candidate for prime minister will be Daniel Mitov. This was announced during the inclusion on Facebook of the party leader Boyko Borissov, whose cabinet is to resign tomorrow before the deputies of the 45th National Assembly. The party will nominate Tsveta Karayancheva as parliamentary speaker, and the leader of the GERB-UDF parliamentary group will be Desislava Atanasova, deputy chairmen Rumen Hristov, Alexander Nenkov and Toma Bikov. Borissov added that he was ready with the cabinet, but would not announce it yet, only revealing that there would be a UDF minister.
Earlier today in Veliko Tarnovo Borissov announced that he was no better prepared than him, but in order not to divide the nation in two “like President Radev”, he will propose another prime minister with a clear European and NATO orientation.
During his speech before the GERB parliamentary group, Borissov touched upon the topic of a caretaker government and possible investigations against it for the third time today. Now, however, the tone was much sharper, at times vulgar.
“They would make a commission (to investigate Borissov – ed. Note) The people made the commission with our victory in the parliamentary elections. I had to appear by a majority to return their drawers, cabinets, lies, speculations, compromising materials in the backyard, “Borissov told the laughing parliamentary group.
He also treated the new parties in parliament aggressively – “There is such a people”, “Democratic Bulgaria” and “Stand up! Get out!”. He announced that he would monitor the processes and intervene when necessary. He advised his opponents not to “challenge him live” and the members of the parliamentary group not to succumb to provocations. “I will be with you, next to you, I will be responsible,” Borissov said, adding that the people would soon understand what they wanted.
“These new faces have been leading political programs for 30 years. Slavi Trifonov did business, now he has come to another stage. This stage needs responsibility, bold, quick decisions,” Borissov commented. He congratulated Trifonov for being the only one to beat the BSP. She wished him health, given. that Trifonov has COVID-19, as well as Desislava Radeva, the president’s wife, who has information that she has health problems.
In addition to summarizing the new faces in parliament as well-forgotten old ones who are woven of hatred because he defeated them, Borissov repeatedly mentioned Hristo Ivanov, the leader of Democratic Bulgaria.
“In Burgas, where is Hristo Ivanov? Fourth. Now he has the opportunity to go and push Rosenets. All last summer beach, sea. We can go this summer, last night I did not have the opportunity to go. Will they step on Rosenets now? ? “said Borisov. He also commented on the withdrawn support from Ivanov for the mayor of the Krasno Selo district, Rosina Stanislavova, who was accused of alleged abuse. According to Borissov, despite the withdrawn support, she continued to “do the tricks”.
In the attack on his opponents, Borissov complained about the protests, which took place several times in front of his house in Bankya by the “System Kills Us” organization.
“They stopped dealing with the president’s son, but they did not stop going to my house and harassing my children. Let people draw conclusions about who is a good person,” Borissov said.
Who is Daniel Mitov
Daniel Mitov began his political career in the Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria (DSB). In the 2009 parliamentary elections, he was a candidate for MP and leader of the proportional list of the Blue Coalition, but failed to enter parliament. In 2012, Mitov left the DSB and joined the Citizens’ Movement Bulgaria party, founded by former EU Commissioner Meglena Kuneva.
On August 6, 2014, he was appointed by President Rosen Plevneliev as Minister of Foreign Affairs in the caretaker government of Georgi Bliznashki. He retains the post in the next government – the second of Boyko Borissov, where he is from the quota of the Reformist bloc.
After the dissolution of the cabinet, Mitov, as well as other ministers from the Reformist bloc, received accusations from the prosecutor’s office for a crime committed in the line of duty, but was subsequently acquitted by the court. Mitov and his deputy in the ministry, Hristo Angelichin, were taken to court in 2017 on charges of a crime committed in the line of duty due to an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture for the purchase of plane tickets.
Late last year, Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva announced that President Rumen Radev had refused to appoint Mitov as ambassador to Romania. According to her, the reason for this is political and is not related to Mitov’s professional biography and qualities.
Last year, it was announced that he had been nominated as EU special representative in Libya.
