Technically, on March 6 and 7, we cannot attend a rotation, because that is the EPP congress in Bucharest, GERB leader Boyko Borisov told party activists in Kostenets, as quoted by BTA on Tuesday.
According to him, he, Maria Gabriel and Bulgarian MEPs from the EPP will attend the forum and will support Ursula von der Leyen for a second term at the head of the European Commission. This is a congress with elections and we have to vote, I can’t be here, explained the GERB leader.
Regarding the rotation itself, he commented that Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and his deputy and Foreign Minister Mariela Gabriel, who have to change positions, but Borisov does not want Denkov to head the foreign ministry, have not been seen in Sofia recently to discuss the future composition of the cabinet. Sometimes one was abroad, sometimes the other.
And we are sitting with Kiril Petkov and waiting for Denkov and Gabriel to come to an understanding, and for us to eventually come to an understanding for support in the parliament, he commented.
These ministers who work well, but don’t listen to them, shout “take them”, they don’t give to us, we take, continued Borisov and noted that GERB made a huge compromise for Bulgaria as the first political power to cede the first mandate.
Regulators are being changed suddenly, PP-DB has most of the regional governors and they want to take the only ministry that GERB has, Borisov continued.
On the occasion of the proposal of “Continuing the change-Democratic Bulgaria” from earlier for a reform contract after the rotation or to go to early parliamentary elections together with the European ones, Borisov asked what should be signed.
These nine months were not the most successful for the country, but they were not the worst either, is the assessment of the GERB leader. But from March 7-8 onwards, if we continue in the same way, it will be a disaster for both GERB and PP-DB, he believes and noted that at the moment they were only talking about posts.
Borisov agreed with the words of the President Rumen Radev that people see some squabbles for positions, but stressed that GERB are not part of this group.
The great feat is to bring President (Emmanuel) Macron and his wife to Bulgaria, to have a meeting with Israel, Greece, Romania, Turkey and the European Union. If you call someone five times and tell them “invite me”, they may invite you, it is important when you go on this visit, what you will sign there, not only to travel, commented Borisov. We fought for the Berlin process to come to Sofia, given that Bulgaria, Greece and Romania are not participating in it, but Bulgaria had such a strong leadership in the region, boasted Boyko Borisov.
