Boris Johnson’s unacceptable step

The tension between Brussels and London has escalated again on account of the complex situation of North Ireland after Brexit. For the second time in less than a year, the British Government of Boris Johnson has failed to comply with the agreement. Johnson has announced unilaterally, bluntly and without prior notice to Brussels, a six-month extension of the grace period granted to the traffic of certain goods (such as those destined for supermarkets) arriving in Northern Ireland from the rest of the United Kingdom. This way of proceeding is unacceptable and the European Commission has rightly reacted by launching the preparations for an infringement procedure and the European Parliament has left in the air, without date, the ratification of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement which since January 1 provisionally regulates relations between the EU and the United Kingdom.
