Boris Johnson: The BBC journalist’s blunder and the cancellation of the interview – 2024-10-05 18:09:39

Boris Johnson was preparing to give the first major interview to the BBC today (3/10) after leaving the prime minister’s chair. He would talk about everything: Brexit, his government’s handling of the pandemic and the Partygate scandal.

Something like this, however, will not happen because of the blunder of the journalist Laura Kuenssberg who sent him her notes! Kuenssberg accidentally emailed the interview notes to the former British prime minister instead of sending it to her team’s emails. He described her mistake as infuriating, but said that “honesty is the best policy.”

Specifically, the journalist wrote to X:

“While preparing for the interview with Boris Johnson tomorrow, I accidentally sent our notes to him with a message intended for my team. This obviously means that it is not appropriate to proceed with the interview. It’s infuriating and there’s no reason to pretend it’s anything other than embarrassing and disappointing, as there are many important questions that need to be asked. But embarrassed faces aside, honesty is the best policy. See you on Sunday.”

Other journalists offered to do the interview in Kuenssberg’s place, including former Sky political editor Adam Boulton, Tony Blair’s former communications director Alastair Campbell, and Channel 4 News presenters Cathy Newman and Krishnan Guru-Murthy.
