Boris Johnson speaks with President Zelenskyy

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke by phone with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine on Saturday, February 26.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson had a phone call with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy on Saturday, February 26, several days after Russian troops began their invasion of Ukraine.

According to the official government statement posted on its website about the phone call between the two leaders:

“[Boris Johnson] paid tribute to the incredible heroism and bravery of President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people. The leaders agreed that President Putin is facing more Ukrainian resistance than he expected.

“The Prime Minister updated on UK support for Ukraine and progress bringing international partners together to hold Russia accountable for its campaign of destruction.

“The leaders agreed on the need for the international community to completely isolate Russia diplomatically and financially. They welcomed the increased willingness to take action to exclude Russia from SWIFT.

“The Prime Minister and President Zelenskyy expressed mutual concern about the role Belarus is playing as a conduit for President Putin’s violence.”
