According to Johnson, the Russian president did not understand what he would face when he sent his troops into Ukraine, and did not expect such strong resistance. Johnson also noted that Putin committed a number of war crimes comparable in scale to which there had not been in Europe since the Third Reich, since the Second World War.
“Putin needs to realize that he cannot succeed now,” the British prime minister added. “He will not be able to crush and conquer Ukraine, because they have shown their indomitable spirit. So … he must leave from there. Together with his tanks and armor,” he said.
“In the matter of peace, there must be a solution that respects the will of the Ukrainian people. And the UK will support this solution,” Boris Johnson added.
