Boris Becker: Now the billionaire who gave him the usurious loan is speaking

Last April, Boris Becker (55) was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for bankruptcy fraud. He is currently behind bars in Huntercombe Prison near London.

Now one of his former lenders speaks for the first time. British billionaire John Caudwell, 69, told The Times: “When he got into financial trouble I was persuaded to lend him money. I didn’t want it, but otherwise the consequences would have been bad for Boris.”

What did he need money for so badly? Becker had to have his villa in Mallorca renovated. For this he got 1.2 million pounds borrowed from the entrepreneur. The bizarre thing: the interest rate on the loan was 25 percent!

Shortly thereafter, Boris Becker was declared bankrupt. During the negotiations in the bankruptcy process, he stated that the high interest rate would not have been affordable.

Caudwell sees it differently: “He used me as an excuse. Sometimes you do people a favor and it backfires.”
