Boris Becker: An assassin threatened to kill me in a British prison

“In prison I was immediately confronted with a reality of which I had no experience. It was dangerous. I tried not to look anyone in the eye and stay in my corner,” the three-time Wimbledon champion and Novak Djokovic’s former coach told German television SAT 1.

Becker broke down in tears as he described how a killer threatened to kill him in prison. According to The Daily Telegraph, he admitted he feared for his life when the killer, who he called “John” and had been behind bars for 16 years, told him in detail how Becker would die.

“He wanted to kill me. He underestimated that I already had a certain position here, that the other prisoners would come to my aid and threaten him. I was shaking terribly with a tray of food in my hand,” she added.

Becker was jailed for two-and-a-half years in April for hiding £2.5m worth of assets to avoid paying debts after a British court declared him bankrupt. He served eight months.
