“We have decided to reconquer the banks of the river and the canal. The first stage is successful and very popular in Roannais. We can see that the work is in full swing on the Bords de Loire 2 operation, and this continuity of Bords de Loire 1 is a 6,200,000 euro project,” declared Yves Nicolin, mayor of Roanne, during a site visit to the Esplanade des Mariniers site on September 27.
An esplanade des Mariniers “disorganized, but which will be reorganized with the work in progress”, as the chief magistrate explained. The side alley which will allow local residents to come and go between the Quai de l’île and the Commandant-Lherminier quay should also reopen this Monday, October 2.
The construction of the gently sloping staircase which will connect the RD 2017 to the Espalanade should begin at the end of October, beginning of November, followed by grassing of the esplanade with one objective: to host the 2024 Music Festival on the site .
“Taking into account the economic situation and to remain within the scope of the work, we have decided to abandon the footbridge. This footbridge, which was located above rue Deveaux, will be built later. In any case not in the short term . Maybe next term.”

Phase 3 will see the development of a cycle path on the RD 207 (the departmental road which crosses the Loire bridge and enters Roanne), next summer, but also the improvement of the pedestrian crossing, with the creation of a central island to cross the RD 207 in two stages and an improvement of rue Devaux because, as the mayor declared: “It has not escaped you that everything is increasing, then, taking into account the economic situation and for remain within the work envelope, we decided to abandon the footbridge.” The mayor did not give a date for a resumption of this project which was to connect Place Aristide Briand to Rue André-Deveaux. . “Maybe in the next term,” he cautiously said. The saving, of almost 1 million euros, will thus make it possible to remain within the framework of the envelope of 6,200,000 euros.

The mayor then outlined the different phases of the upcoming project before announcing the creation of a temporary parking lot on the former Descours and Cabaud site. The parking area, free and with a capacity of 35 spaces, should be operational during the week of October 2.
Eventually, around ten cameras should be installed to ensure the security of the neighborhood and 250 trees will be planted on the site.
