Border Control Update for Latvia and Belarus: June 7, 2021

Wednesday, June 7 12 people were prevented from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total of 3,761 people this year. Two people were not denied crossing the state border due to humanitarian reasons in the past 24 hours, in total 187 people were admitted this year due to humanitarian reasons.

On the external borders and inside the country in the past 24 hours, State Border Guard officials found 68 offenders.

On the outer borders 44 border violators were found, including:

  • Three foreigners with forged documents were found

One Ukrainian citizen was found at the Grebneva border control point, who presented the border guards with a fake Ukrainian driver’s license, while two Iranian citizens were found at the Riga Airport border control point, who presented the border guards with forged Spanish passports. Criminal proceedings have been initiated for the use of forged documents. The forged documents were removed as part of the criminal proceedings.

  • Three wanted persons were detained

One Latvian citizen entering Latvia from London and one from Tashkent who are wanted by the police, as well as one Latvian citizen leaving for London, who is wanted by the police, were detected at the border control point of Riga Airport. The persons were arrested and handed over to the State Police officials.

  • Entry to Latvia was denied to 10 foreigners

Three Uzbek and two Belarusian citizens were denied entry to Latvia at the Terekhova, Silene and Riga Airport border control points because the foreigners did not have a valid visa or residence permit, and three Uzbek, one Azerbaijani, and one Moldovan citizens were denied entry to Latvia because the foreigners could not justify the purpose of entry and stay. Persons returned to the country of departure.

  • Violations of the conditions of stay were found for 17 foreigners

Four citizens of Uzbekistan, three of Mongolia, three of Ukraine, three of Armenia, one of Russia, one of Belarus, one of Kazakhstan and one of Georgia were found at the border control point of Grebneva, Silene and Riga Airports, who had violated the conditions of stay (exceeded the period of stay specified in the visa, are not valid visas or residence permits) in Schengen countries.   • Five Latvian citizens have been banned from leaving the country

Three Latvian citizens traveling to London whose documents are not valid for departure to Great Britain, one Latvian citizen traveling to Dublin who did not have a valid travel document (the document was invalid due to a change of surname) and one Latvian minor traveling to Tbilisi were found at the border control point of Riga Airport. a citizen who did not have a parent’s notarized authorization for the child to leave the country. Persons are prohibited from leaving the country.
