Bordeaux: the Gironde prefecture bans the gathering in tribute to Thomas, who died in Crépol – France Bleu

The ultra-right group La Bastide Bordelaise called for a rally this Friday, December 1, in Bordeaux in tribute to Thomas, died at a village ball in Crépol in the Drôme, Place de la Bourse at 7 p.m. At the same time, the far-left and Bordeaux Anti-Fascist Offensive had called for a counter-demonstration, 300 meters away, Place Jean Jaurès in Bordeaux, explaining on its Instagram account: “while small groups of the far right are mobilizing all over France, to march in our cities and utter their racist ideas, we must stand together and fight together against the political recovery of the tragic death of Thomas”.

“The risk of violent reaction from antagonistic groups is highly probable” writes the prefecture of Gironde in a press release, “and the clashes are regular”the ban was decided, especially since the declared gathering of La Bastide Bordelaise is “likely to attract several hundred people and it does not seem possible to guarantee a peaceful procession”.

The Gironde prefecture adds that “this gathering takes place in a current context of raising the Vigipirate posture to the maximum level, and of the violence committed during demonstrations organized by ultra-right activists in Romans-sur-Isère and Lyon”.

Any violation of this decree will be punished by six months’ imprisonment and a fine of 7,500 euros. The prefect of Gironde authorized the use of a drone by the national police to ensure compliance with the ban.

In Lillea gathering called for by ultra-right identitarians has already been banned on Wednesday.
