Absent from the Kowloon seafront for five years, the Bordeaux inter-professional association is going to reconnect with the presentation of its wines during the relaunch Hong Kong gastronomic event.

f the Beatles sang in 1968 of their joy at returning to the USSR, the wines of Bordeaux can trumpet their satisfaction at returning to HK in 2023. “After 5 years of absence, Bordeaux will once again have its pavilion at Hong Kong Wine & Dine” announced Allan Sichel, president of the Bordeaux Wine Interprofessional Council (CIVB), at a general meeting on July 10. Canceled in 2019 due to pro-democracy protests, digitized in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid, then reduced to partnerships with restaurants in 2022, the Hong Kong gastronomic event returns in its historic format to the West Kowloon seafront promenade .
Traders and winegrowers, Girondin operators will be present from Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 October “to have our wines tasted by an audience of amateurs during this great wine festival in Hong Kong Bay. This type of event also shows the incredible strength of our collective: it is together that we score points, together that we are visible” explained Allan Sichel at his general meeting. A member proposing to reconquer the national territory by deploying a wine festival in Paris, Allan Sichel replied that “for the moment, we go wherever we are invited”knowing that any extension project comes up against budgetary limits.
On the agenda for the next few months
In 2023, the Bordeaux Fête le Vin event will be held from September 28 to October 1 at the Brussels Eat Festival. In 2024, the event will be back in Bordeaux (from June 27 to 30), but also in Brussels, Quebec, Hong Kong and Liverpool. There had been no event in the Beatles’ hometown in 2023, with the English municipality focusing on Eurovision. « It’s been A Hard Day’s Night, and I been working like a dog » sang Georges, John, Paul and Ringo in 1964. The Bordeaux exhibitors at these multiple wine festivals hope to experience the same fatigue after busy days with the general public.
