Bordeaux. Laundry workers at CHU Haut-Lévêque show solidarity with students

For three months now the students of the University of Bordeaux, organized in the committees against precariousness, hold a solidarity distribution every Friday for Bordeaux students. Following the committee’s call for donations, the laundry CGT of Haut-Leveque University Hospital has organized a harvest among hospital workers in recent weeks. The food was distributed this Friday.

At a time when the specter of precariousness threatens more and more young people and the world of work is severely attacked, these links are more necessary than ever. The experience of the solidarity grocery store has shown that the fight for material conditions of life and study that are dignified for students can only be done alongside workers against the government and its institutions, which are the origin of the explosion of youth poverty. The government is putting nothing in place other than cosmetic measures to end the alarming situation of students. On the contrary, at a time when the queues for food distributions are not decreasing, health workers in Bordeaux, while they are on the front line without any means and with the greatest contempt of the executive , did not hesitate to come and support the students against precariousness.

In a context where the government, hand in hand with the big bosses, attacks jobs harshly, we see here the way to follow to ensure us a future which is not made of precariousness. The job cuts of today are our unemployment and our misery of tomorrow. There is a need for the youth to link up with the workers in the grip of the bosses’ offensives in order to aspire to a better tomorrow. As of today, the union repression which wants to muzzle the militant unionists, affects the laundry. Indeed Marie-Laure Charchar, secretary general of the CGT laundry, who organized the collection of food for students is threatened with repression by her management. For defending healthcare workers against austerity policies at the public hospital, she suffered fierce from her management. This threat takes place in a context where these methods are generalized in different sectors, both private and public. Behind these, it is necessary to see that after these first attacks, which affect workers’ representatives like Marie-Laure, others will come against jobs and working conditions. Attacks on union representatives seek to intimidate all workers. It is necessary to be at their side to defend Marie-Laure and all the representatives, the jobs and working conditions of today, and those of the youth for tomorrow.

Eleventh Thesis and the students of the committee against precariousness will be present this Monday May 10 at 3 p.m. in front of the Haut-Lévêque management building to support Marie-Laure
