In second place came the Italian Sonny Colbrelli (Bahrain-Victorious), who succeeded in the final duel with the Australian Michael Matthews (Team BikeExchange).

Slovenian Tadej Pogačar remained in the yellow jersey of the leader of the overall ranking.

Konrad is the third Austrian to win the Tour de France. On the way behind him, he won three mountaineering bonuses, while he disengaged from the pursuers 30 km before the finish.

For the 29-year-old Konrad, who won the Austrian championship in June, he is the best result at the TdF after finishing 2nd in Saturday’s 14th stage.

After Monday’s second and at the same time last day off, a hilly profile with four categorized climbs awaited the competitors. The route from Pas de la Case in Andorra to Saint-Gaudens in France was 169 km away.

At the beginning of the race, the Danish Kasper Asgreen became independent, who developed a half-minute lead.

The racers were initially bothered by the cold weather and Asgreen maintained a lead of more than a minute for a long time.

Michal Kwiatkowski and Mattio Cattaneo reached the leader about 118 km. Shortly afterwards, Tadej Pogačar also took the lead, but his leadership did not last long and he continued in the depth of the main group.

Cattaneo won five points for the first Col de Port mountaineering bonus (2 categories, 11.4 km, slope 5.1%) ahead of Asgreen and Kwiatkowski.

When descending the hill, the peloton reached the trio in the escape. Leading scoring leader Mark Cavendish lost contact with the main group as he climbed the hill.

The speed premium came 84 km before the finish and the full number of 20 points in it was won by the Belgian Jan Bakelants before the Frenchman Fabien Doubey (17) and the Danish Christopher Juul-Jensen (15).

After the sprint premium, the peloton slowed down and the lead of the trio at the head of Bakelants, Doubey and Juul-Jensen gradually increased.

Even 70 km before the finish, the peloton had a rather pace and had a 5-minute shortfall for the escaping trio.

Konrad (10 points) won the Col de la Core mountaineering bonus (1 category, 13.1 km, inclination 6.6%), ahead of Bakelants (8) and Doubey (6).

Two groups formed in front of the peloton, which had a short distance of 7 minutes before the finish line. Before climbing the 2nd category hill Col de Portet-d’Aspet, Konrad detached.

Doubey, David Gaudu and Sonny Colbrelli kept pace with him. Konrad finally scored 5 points ahead of Gaudu and Colbrelli on the Col de Portet-d’Aspe (2 categories, 5.4 km, inclination 6.9%).
