Israel: Justice Bans Again “Jenin, Jenin” Movie

Located in the north of the occupied West Bank, the Jenin Palestinian refugee camp was the scene of violence in 2002. Fifty two Palestinians and 23 Israeli soldiers were killed in clashes. The documentary film “Jenin, Jenin” traces this tragedy, but it is judged to be biased by the Israeli justice system, which again decides to censor it. With our correspondent in Jerusalem, Sami BoukhelifaJenin, Jenin, it is the story of Palestinians, simple people who experienced a real tragedy during the incursion of the Israeli army on their territory, explains the director Mohammad Bakri. We are in 2002 during the second intifada. “In this film, I tell the truth or rather a truth to which the Israelis are not used, that is to say the Palestinian point of view,” continues Mohammad Bakri. Through this film, the Israelis were able to discover another reality. But above all, they don’t want to see this reality. She bothers them. “As soon as it was released in 2002, the film created controversy and the director faced justice. “I’ve been dragged to court for eighteen years,” he recalls. In 2003, however, the Israeli High Court of Justice authorized the showing of my film in Israel. And today, another court overturns this decision. I will appeal once again to the High Court of Justice and fight against this arbitrary decision. Mohammad Bakri, however, doubts whether he can win his case. According to him, the Israeli justice is no longer independent and it is the government and the army that make the decisions. ► See also: The Israeli NGO B’Tselem denounces an apartheid regime in Israel
