Bootleg Merch Combines Pokemon and The Avengers

If a franchise is popular enough, it will surely have mountains of imitation products. These bootleg toys and collectibles often draw ridicule online for their poor quality, production errors, and unusual quirks.

A Reddit user in Italy recently shared a couple of images showing some very suspicious images. Pokémon toys. And while one photo shows a relatively typical example of unlicensed merchandise, the other shows an odd cross between Pokémon y the Avengers.

The bizarre bootleg in question features an off-brand version of Ash Ketchum and four oversized Pikachu in Avenger garb. This includes versions of the Electric Mouse dressed as Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and the Hulk. And while these costumed Pikachu are actually kind of cute, it seems unlikely that Marvel and the Pokémon Company signed this particular piece. Pokémon goods. There are other things wrong with these pieces of contraband Pokémon goods, and the more they jump the more you look at the photo. For example, Ash’s toy is on a smaller scale than Pikachu, making it look like it was thrown at the last moment. He is also a very sloppy action figure, with a bad paint job and a strangely deadpan facial expression. Pikachu’s ears are also oddly shaped, with one commenter comparing Hulk Pikachu’s ears to tequila worms.

The packaging is also peculiar. It features two different versions of Ash, neither of which resemble the toy, and a seemingly random collection of Pokémon. The various graphics don’t even have a consistent design, including a mix of plastic figurines and at least three different 2D art styles. the avengers crossover is the strangest part of these unlicensed Pokémon toys, but the poor quality of the toy and the makeshift packaging add to the overall awkwardness of the product.

Compared to unlicensed Avenger crossover, the second image seems much more orthodox Pokémon pirate. It features fourteen molded plastic Pokémon, including a large Pikachu that appears to be sticking its tongue out like a dog. Other rarities include a pink Psyduck, Green Mew, and a second oddly shaped Pikachu. About half of the small plastic Pokémon aren’t even packaged properly and appear to be loose in the plastic packaging. The artwork on the box is also something to see. It features a seemingly random mix of characters and Pokémon, including the same two versions of Ash and at least seven Pikachu.

Of course, fussy about the details of these unlicensed toys can seem like losing the forest for the trees. However, since Pokémon pirates seem to be everywhere, it pays to know what to look out for when looking for discount merchandise.
