Boot Camp update refers to new 16-inch MacBook Pro 2020

Will there be a new 16-inch MacBook Pro 2020? A reference appears to be hidden in the release notes of the recently released Boot Camp update.

Reference to new 16-inch MacBook Pro 2020 discovered

Apple recently released an update to Boot Camp, the utility for running Windows on a Mac. While these updates are generally unobtrusive, the release notes reveal references to a previously unreleased 2020 model of the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

The current 16 inch-MacBook Pro is now almost a year old and so it is certainly not a bad idea to expect a freshening up. In June, Apple released a new graphics option for the 16-inch MacBook Pro. However, this device is still listed as a 2019 model on the Apple website.

So an official 16-inch MacBook Pro 2020 model does not yet exist. The reference to such a 2020 version in the release notes may therefore indicate an upcoming announcement.

MacBook with Apple Sillicon announced in November

Continuing news indicates that Apple plans to introduce the Mac with a modified Apple Silicon processor on November 17. Rumors have it that this transition starts at the bottom of the MacBook hierarchy with the 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

Rumors have not previously appeared about the possible arrival of a new 16-inch MacBook. So there is little to say in that area. Should a 2020 version indeed be in the works, it is expected to build on the evolution of the 2019 model.

16-inch MacBook Pro 2019

All 2019 MacBook Pros have a Touch Bar with Touch ID, T2 security chip and are equipped with an enhanced i5, i7 or i9 processor from Intel. Furthermore, the 16 inch-MacBook Pro 2019 thinner screen edges. That way, the laptop is just as big as its predecessor with a 15-inch display, but it still has more screen space. The 2019 model also returned the old familiar scissor mechanism keyboard.
