The vaccination station of the city of Offenbach am Main is now vaccinating everyone who has had the last vaccination at least six months ago with the booster vaccination.
“This is particularly important for older people over the age of 60 because, statistically, they are at greatest risk. At this age, the immune system often does not build up as much protection or reduces this protection more quickly than in young people. And if the last vaccination was up to two weeks less than 6 months ago, we also vaccinate, ”explains Mayor Sabine Groß. General practitioners and specialists and the vaccination station in the Bernard building carry out a vaccination. Older people and people with previous illnesses, people with a weakened immune system and staff in care facilities have priority over other people who want to be vaccinated.
So far, the recommendation of the Standing Vaccination Commission has always applied to the booster vaccination. This is also the case with the State of Hesse soziales.hessen.de documented. As a decision on a case-by-case basis after the consultation with a doctor, vaccination is possible at the doctor’s and in the vaccination station and is often done.
“Every vaccination provides the immune system with a kind of mug shot of the virus. Over time, this photo will fade. How quickly it fades depends on the individual physical condition but also on the vaccine. The body reacts to the mug shot in different ways. Even after six months there is still an answer from the immune system – so there is no rush for people under the age of 60. The situation is different with the single vaccination with Johnson & Johnson – here it has been found that the effect of the vaccination wears off much faster. This booster can and should be renewed as early as four weeks after the single vaccination, “explains Dr. Bernhard Bornhofen.
“The vaccination station has mobile teams on duty for people in care facilities and old people’s homes, who work through the facilities according to a plan that has already been drawn up. In this way we can reach those particularly at risk directly, ”says social affairs officer Martin Wilhelm.
The vaccination station in Herrnstrasse is currently enjoying a high number of visitors. The city of Offenbach am Main had set up the vaccination station. A service provider was commissioned with the implementation after the state of Hesse closed the vaccination centers organized through disaster control at the end of September. “The best contact person for the booster vaccination is of course your own family doctor or specialist. We have set up the vaccination station as an additional offer – with the means that are available to us. However, the capacities are limited and it cannot be done without the doctors, ”emphasizes Sabine Groß, the head of the health department. The occupancy rate in the vaccination station is particularly high between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. – there can be waiting times of up to three hours. The fastest way is between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. with waiting times of up to 45 minutes, and between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. with waiting times of up to an hour.
The city of Offenbach also offers mobile vaccinations in the hut of the clubs at the Christmas market. Questions and answers about vaccination are below www.offenbach.de/impfen answered. Appointments and video information are also stored there. Religious communities and cultural associations are also regularly provided with information and can pass it on. Anyone who would like to provide information on their own in their personal environment can, in addition to the online information, ask the Public Relations Office for handouts.
