Booster shot campaign accelerated, hospital employees vaccinated from next week

The booster campaign is accelerated. The healthcare staff in hospitals is at the forefront of this. They will be supplied with vaccines next week, healthcare sources report to the NOS.

Institutions for the elderly and the disabled with their own medical service are also given an earlier turn. They can order the vaccinations for their residents early next week. The doses of vaccine will be delivered the week of November 22.

For some of the nursing homes this means an advance of two weeks. The nursing homes with their own institutional doctors were previously only able to start administering booster vaccinations on December 6.

Other groups

Minister De Jonge may announce more about the acceleration of the booster campaign before the corona person conference tonight. The pressure to get the injections earlier is great due to the rising infection rates and the increasing pressure on healthcare.

It remains to be seen whether the boosters will also become available sooner for three other groups: the elderly who can come to a GGD location themselves, other healthcare workers and residents of institutions without their own medical service.

For the time being, the smaller institutions will not receive the booster vaccines until January. ‘Mobile elderly people’ and other care employees can, for the time being, get the jab at GGD locations in December.
