President Iván Duque announced during a press conference that the vaccination goal against covid-19 had a change: although it had been estimated that 70% of the immunized population would be reached with the full scheme this year, the figure could be reduced towards the 65%.
“We have noticed that they are appearing, in some cities, regrowth situations in people who have not had their reinforcement “, justified the president, who also explained: “it obliges us, to prevent mortality, especially in people who may be at risk population, to accelerate this reinforcement.”
In addition to this, in terms of first doses, a goal of 80% was established people vaccinated in the country at the end of this month. “I prefer to sacrifice a little more second doses but protect people who may be more exposed and who require that booster. Why? Because it is what we are seeing as a trend also in the world ”, emphasized Duque.
The president clarified that this change serves to prevent mortality from coronavirus in the country, since it will strengthen the immune system of people who have a greater risk of becoming worse or dying from covid.
With cut to December 9, 60,040,692 doses have been applied in the country. 40% of this figure represents people who already have the complete scheme.
