Booster doses of the Covid-19 vaccine are now available at the Primary Care Center (PCC). Unfortunately, the delay in receiving the vaccines has been due to the United Kingdom being unable to send them to Gibraltar until now.
Those over 50 years of age or anyone considered vulnerable due to their age or health status can receive booster doses, such as people with type 1 and 2 diabetes, people with cancer, people who are taking immunosuppressive medication or who are immunosuppressed by any other reason or who suffer from a chronic illness. Caregivers of vulnerable people or those who have close contact with vulnerable people, for example, if they live together, may also be vaccinated. Likewise, people who work in health and/or social assistance, those who live in residences and pregnant women may receive a booster dose. Likewise, an exception will be made for those who express a strong desire to be vaccinated to protect themselves from the virus.
We would also like to remind the public that flu vaccines are still available and can be administered at the same time as the Covid-19 vaccine. It’s not too late to get one or both vaccines to protect yourself and others.
Starting last Monday, January 22, 2024, if you want to get the Covid-19 vaccine you must call (+350) 20066966. The phone lines will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Administration officials will make an appointment for your vaccine.
The Covid-19 vaccination program will begin on Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., on the ground floor of the Primary Care Center. Please be sure to call to make an appointment, as without an appointment the vaccine will not be administered. However, if you make an appointment at the PCC to get vaccinated, you will be offered other vaccines.
We thank you for your collaboration.
Chief Public Health Officer Helen Carter said: “It is important to receive booster doses to reduce the spread of Covid-19 now and in the spring. “Covid-19 is still with us and we need to make sure we do everything we can to help protect those considered vulnerable in our community.”
