While coronavirus cases are rebounding in the Basque Country, the inoculation of booster doses remains stagnant. Barely 40% of Basques over the age of 18 have the second booster dose, according to the latest Osakidetza vaccination bulletin. Among those over 80 years of age, however, the scope of punctures to protect themselves against Covid-19 is greater and reaches 85.6%.
The vaccine is one of the main reasons why SARS-CoV-2 has lost strength, although it seems that infections have picked up again this summer. To date, 1,328,602 people over the age of 18 have received the first booster dose in the Basque Country and 533,848 have received the second, representing vaccination rates of 77.4% and 40.2%, respectively, according to data from the Basque Department of Health. In any case, 92.9% of the population has what is considered complete vaccination, that is, two doses. Those who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 the least are young people between the ages of 18 and 29. 86.8% had two punctures, 43.0% received the first booster dose and only 7.2% the second.
The brand of vaccines that has been inoculated the most in the Basque Country is BioNTech/Pfizer, with 2,945,823 doses administered. It is followed by Moderna/Lonza, with 1,189,075; AstraZeneca, with 479,661; and Janssen, with 99,360. In addition, 144,770 pediatric doses from Pfizer and 589,505 from BioNTech/Pfizer Omicron have been administered. Anyone who wants to receive a booster dose of the vaccine this summer can make an appointment by phone at their clinic and they will give them time to get vaccinated right there.
