NIJMEGEN – The new round of injections against corona is running as expected, according to the GGD Gelderland South.
The booster campaign started last Monday. This is intended for people aged sixty and over and people who are more likely to become seriously ill from corona than normal. The latter group includes healthcare workers, pregnant women and people who are also invited for a flu shot.
“People aged 60+ receive an invitation every week, so registering people is still an ongoing process. New appointments are added every day.” According to a spokesperson for the GGD Gelderland Zuid, the available capacity will be full in the coming weeks.
The new round of vaccinations aims to get ahead of the virus, says Alma Tostmann, epidemiologist at Radboud university medical center: “We have actually had very little coronavirus since last spring.”
According to her, experience shows that the virus will now revive: “That is also the case with other viruses. As soon as autumn or winter comes, the virus will only circulate more. So the injection is really planned before such a wave comes again. .”
