The commitment to the visual arts and performances continues to be one of the main themes of the events in the Camp North End in Charlotte. Therefore, this week will be the epicenter of the festival BOOM Charlottean event that shows the combination of art styles, by emerging and innovative artists.
The highlight of this festival, which is being held for the sixth time in Charlotte, is the participation of local Latino artists, who will have the opportunity to bring their work closer to the community and demonstrate their talent.

Melody Shanahan, an ancient ballet dancer
Melody Shanahan was born in Charlotte, but with Mexican and Irish ancestry. He studied at school Northwest School of the Artsis part of the National Honor Society for the Arts of Dance and attends the Ballet studio Open Doors.
“I am a ballet dancer who combines Latin/Mexican rhythms to tell a story on stage. my mission has been break cultural boundaries through dancecombining classical ballet with folkloric/Spanish sounds as a unique style”, commented the young woman to the team BOOM Charlotte.

A work to get to know the Afro-Latino diaspora in Spanish
As part of the presentations at the festival BOOM Charlotte, this year we sought to publicize issues of social and cultural relevance through inclusion. As an example, Cine Casual Film Series and CineOdyssey will present a series of short films about the African diaspora in Brazil, Jamaica and Puerto Rico.
For the Latino community, the short film that will be presented will be “Daughter of The Sea” o “daughter of the sea”, a work directed by the Puerto Rican Alexis C. García, who has 17 years working as a writer, screenwriter and in production. The play will be subtitled in Spanish.

Musical presentation of the Latin group Café Amaretto
The local group will be part of this event Café Amaretto. On this occasion, the singer will perform Ana Lucia Divins (voice), of Colombian origin, and Carlos Crespo, a guitarist born in Ecuador. Both promise to give a show with soft and relaxing Latin American songs that mix jazz, blues and other genres.
“Music is an instrument and a tool that serves much more than entertain people, it serves to bring the memories of that traditional music from our countries and share them in an educational way to create community and connect it”, Divins commented to La Noticia.

Dance, music and theater with “Guateques de la Casa de la Cultura”
The House of Culture will be one of the organizations that will join BOOM Charlotte through an ancestral Afro show of dance, music and theater, called: “Guateques of the House of Culture”.
This show contemplates showing the public the ancestral South American folkloric traditions, specifically from the Venezuelan region. Start with a dance tour of dancing devils, continuing with a song that will begin the celebration of San Juan Bautista. Later, he will go on stage Black Lawrence with a bilingual monologue.

Create a letter to welcome an immigrant
OBRA Collective is an interdisciplinary Latino group in Charlotte that creates pro-immigrant art and to celebrate the culture of the Latino community. In this opportunity, they invite the community to participate in a visual event to write cards.
The event, which is called “Trading Cards” o “collectible cards”, consists of participants creating two cards to welcome an immigrant or offer an inclusive message. Then they must leave their card and can take one made by someone else.
