With Spotify you can listen to music from every imaginable genre online via stream. Students get the paid subscription cheaper thanks to the “Spotify Premium Student” option. For this, however, some conditions must be met, which we will present to you below.

The Spotify student plan brings you the premium service at half price. So you’re currently paying only €4.99 per month, to be able to stream unlimited and ad-free music in the Spotify Web Player, via the app or via the desktop client. You can register for the student discount perform on the special page at Spotify.
Spotify Student: These are the terms of the student discount
The following conditions apply to “Spotify Student”:
- In order to be able to use Spotify Student, you must provide proof. The music streaming provider works with “Sheer ID” for this. Proof can be provided by an official document that shows your name and the name of the university, for example a current course catalogue, a certificate of enrollment or a transcript of current lectures.
- The verification may take a few days.
- Of course, you must also be enrolled at a German university. In the verification form you can choose your facility.
- If your university is not listed there, unfortunately you cannot register for the student option.
- You can get the discount with the “Premium Student” option up to 4 years take a long time.
- The subscription with the low price is running always for 1 year. After that, you have to renew the proof and extend the student subscription to get Spotify at half price as a student.
- After the student term has expired, the service can be used in the ad-free, normal premium version or in the free version with advertising.
There are no differences in the program, content and functions of Spotify Student compared to the premium model.
Join Spotify as a student and get a discount
You can claim the student discount here. Open the form at “Sheer ID” and follow the instructions to provide proof. You don’t have to register with your university’s e-mail address, you can use your private address. After checking, the student discount can also be used transferred to an existing Spotify account.
A registration for Spotify Student is also retroactively possible, the student discount will then be available from the next billing period of the premium subscription. Spotify vouchers cannot be used to pay for Spotify Student. Payment via mobile phone bill is also not possible with this option. Other payment methods at Spotify at a glance.
Renew Spotify student
If you want to continue to use the student discount after 12 months, you have to extend the premium student option. This is for a maximum period of 4 years. You will receive an email from Spotify around 4 weeks before the discount period expires. there it is explained exactly how you can extend the student option. Alternatively, log into your Spotify account and navigate to the account page to find the relevant option.
Cancel Spotify Student
At the end of the discounted student term, Spotify automatically switches to the premium model. If you don’t want to pay the full price for streaming, you can cancel with Spotify and continue using the free version. The subscription can be cancel in the account overview. As with the normal service, the notice period here also applies until the end of the period already paid for. If Spotify Student is canceled during the discount period, i.e. within the 12 months, you can access the discounted price for the remaining time reactivate at a later date.
If you have problems signing up or canceling, you can contact Spotify Support. If your student ID is not accepted or there are other issues with booking Spotify Premium Student, contact the provider Sheer ID.
