Review of the book “History of Spanish science fiction. Textualization of knowledge and technology in a transareal perspective (in German)”
Master’s thesis from 2014 in the field of Romance Studies – Hispanic Studies, grade: 2.0, University of Trier (Romance Studies), language: German, abstract: Science fiction deals with the progress of all of humanity. Country and national borders play no role. The fascination of sci-fi lies in the contradiction between science and fiction. This can already be found in ancient myths. But why is the genre more popular in some regions than in others? And why does English-language literature dominate on an international level, with other cultural contextualizations only being taken into account to a limited extent? Lukas Szpeth investigates this in his work “History of Spanish Science Fiction. Textualization of Knowledge and Technology in a Transareal Perspective”. In his examination of Spanish science fiction literature, he also shows why it does differ regionally. Lukas Szpeth also traces the development of its origins in detail. He uses two Spanish-language works and an interview with the Spanish author Juan Miguel Aguilera as a reference point. His work is therefore an ideal starting point for science fiction fans, literary scholars, connoisseurs of Spanish literary history and those who want to become one.
