Yet another trophy for Booba. This Thursday, November 30, marked the presentation of the Sacem 2023 Grand Prix. Despite the new rising generation of rappers, it was the one nicknamed the Duke who was awarded the Grand Prix for urban music.
Sacem celebrated and rewarded its talents on November 30, 2023. Live from the Maison de la Radio in Paris, no fewer than 19 talents were awarded prizes for their contributions in different musical styles. And in the urban music category, it’s good Kopp who won the Grand Prix…
One more trophy for Booba
Even if he has worn several hats for several years, it is always good to remember the extraordinary artistic impact that Booba has had on French rap and on urban culture. While the opus Ultra, released in 2021, is (perhaps) the last of his career, Booba is constantly renewing himself in the music industry, in particular by revealing short titles to us on the fly on the platforms. With an innumerable number of hits and an inimitable pen, it was therefore perfectly legitimate that Sacem designated it as the Grand Prix of urban music.
Obviously touched by this umpteenth award, the Duke came to collect his trophy in person. Dressed in a tuxedo, a rare enough occurrence to be highlighted, Booba was presented with his prize by Oxmo Puccino, living legend of French rap, and Arnold Turboust, composer and member of the Sacem board of directors. The 46-year-old Boulonnais briefly spoke, thanking the 92i, its team as well as its manager Anne Cibron, with a simple and effective conclusion:
”What to say ? THANKS. I think we worked, we deserved it and I hope we get more!”
Another award was also given to rapper Gazo, who is the SDRM Grand Prix Winner of the year. The singer Zazie, an essential voice of French song, won the Sacem Special Prize. Renowned French DJ David Guetta won the Grand Prix for electronic music.
