The investigation into the unexplained disappearance of Kyle Clinkscales, a 22-year-old student, in 1976 in the United States saw a major advance on Tuesday. The young man’s car was found submerged in a cove in Alabama (United States) after a witness saw part of the trunk protruding from the water. The rusted and mud-covered vehicle was then towed onto dry land, CNN reports. Human remains were found inside.
The Troup County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia announced on Facebook Thursday that it had found “approximately 50 pieces of skeleton, including part of the skull.” The bones were taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Criminal Lab for analysis. The car also contained personal effects, including a wallet with Kyle Clinkscales’ identity card and credit cards.
A never-ending car ride
The young man had been missing for almost 46 years. He was last seen on January 27, 1976 as he left his workplace in Georgia. He had to drive to his university in Auburn, Alabama. The trip must have taken him less than an hour, but the student had never arrived at his destination.
The American was an only child. His parents had never given up. In the hope of finding the young man, they had spent thousands of dollars on search operations. The couple is now deceased.
