Bondy: lack of resources in the face of Covid-19, teachers from Brossolette college on strike

The 540 students of the Pierre-Brossolette college, in Bondy, did not have lessons on Tuesday. 34 of their 35 teachers expected today voted to strike, to protest against “the impossibility of enforcing the health protocol”, summarizes one of them, a math teacher. A decision which should not be renewed Wednesday, but which aims to “mark the occasion”.

The half-boarders were welcomed into the college, while the day students were able to return home.

In particular: the lack of masks and insufficient disinfection of the premises, according to a spokesperson for the striking teachers of Bondy. A problem “which lasts since the start of the school year”, they assure.

This is what they detail in a letter sent this Tuesday to Stéphane Troussel, PS president of the departmental council of Seine-Saint-Denis.

Thus, “despite everyone’s efforts – management, teaching staff and agents”, they observe every morning that “cleaning has not been done in all the rooms” and that “the surfaces, floors and various equipment […] are not disinfected once a day ”. “The officers are doing what they can, but the workload has increased. However, those working part-time are not completed, those on sick leave are not replaced. These absences disrupt the service, ”plague a teacher.

Result: “These are the teachers who clean their desks with their own wipes”, “there is no soap in some toilets”, they add. Another example testifying to the lack of manpower to enforce this health protocol, it is the teachers themselves who had to paint, on the ground of the playground, the boundaries dedicated to the distance between students.
