Bond of Bereaved Parents: Five Years After the Stint Accident – A Story of Strength and Resilience

They still get together every year. The parents of the four children who died in the accident with the Stint in Oss. Now also with a smile, as they say in the documentary ‘Five years after the Stint’ that was shown on RTL4 on Sunday evening. A smile because memories, in the words of Erwin, father of the deceased sisters Dana (8) and Liva (4), also become beautiful. Where before they were only painful.

“Now you’re glad you have those memories and they’re stored in your heart,” says Erwin.

In the documentary, the parents talk about the special bond they have with each other and how this bond gives them support and guidance. For example, they have an app group together. To help each other get through it.

“Everyone is different and everyone does it in their own way, but together we get through it. And it’s been that way from the first moment. In the deepest moments of your life you actually met the most beautiful people,” describes Megi, the mother of the deceased Kris (4).

Three Musketeers
In addition to the enormous grief that the parents share, the documentary shows another similarity. Since the accident, a child has been born in all three families: all three boys. ‘The three musketeers’, as Wendy, Erwin’s wife, calls them. Three little boys who, in her words, ‘bring down a new ray of sunshine’.

“A nice thought”, Erwin adds to his wife. “Because we’re all so different. The three musketeers are different too. If you’re all the same, you can’t be strong because then you all have the same weaknesses. We all have our weak moments, but we all have our strong moments too. And I I think that’s why we’re so strong together.”
