Actor Sean Connery has died at the age of 90, his family reports to the BBC. He was best known for the James Bond films. Connery died in his sleep in the Bahamas last night. He would have been in poor health for some time.
Connery was the first actor to bring James Bond to the silver screen, in Dr. No (1962). He played the same role six more times, including in the classics Goldfinger (1964) in Diamonds Are Forever (1971).
The Scot not only played the role of the spy, but also played roles in films like The Hunt for Red October (1990), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) in The Untouchables (1987). For the latter film he received an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. After a career spanning decades, he announced his retirement in 2006.
