Bonaire also does not allow flights from Europe for the time being

Following Curaçao and Aruba, Bonaire has also closed its airport for incoming flights from Europe. The measure will apply until March 30 for the time being.

The decision was taken after consultation with various Dutch ministries. Cruise ships are banned from mooring. This applies to the next thirty days.

Lieutenant Governor Edison Rijna emphasizes that no coronavirus infection has yet been identified on the island. There are also no suspicious cases.

The reason for the announcement of a flight measure is that the island does not have the capacity to deal with a major outbreak of the virus. According to the Lieutenant Governor, it is also possible that flights from other areas will be banned if there is reason to do so.

Infections Curaçao, Aruba

The first infection was confirmed yesterday on Curaçao. It is a 69-year-old man who is currently isolated in a house and is not allowed to go outside. The island then canceled all flights from the Netherlands. According to the authorities, that is about twenty flights a week, from KLM and TUI.

A few hours later, Aruba also canceled all flights from Europe, among others. Two infections have been detected on the island. It is an American tourist who has visited several countries and a resident of Aruba who has been in New York.

Also, public meetings on the island are canceled until the end of the month and all schools will be closed next week.
