The American singer Jon Bon Jovi prevented a potential tragedy in Nashville by persuading a woman who appeared to be trying to jump off a bridge to return to safety, local police said. The singer was there because he was filming the music video for his latest song.
The incident occurred Wednesday on the Seigenthaler pedestrian bridge, which crosses the Cumberland River, according to a message posted by the Metropolitan Police Department (MNPD) on the social network X.
According to local newspaper The Tennessean, the moment when the 62-year-old artist managed to convince the woman not to take her life was captured on video by security cameras. The images were initially posted by the Nashville police on YouTube, but were later removed.
In that video, a woman in a blue shirt could be seen standing on the edge of the bridge and holding on to the outer side of the railing with both arms.
Meanwhile, the “Livin’ on a Prayer” singer and a video production assistant were walking by, and upon noticing the situation, decided to intervene. First, the musician’s companion started the conversation with the woman, and the singer joined in shortly after.
After the exchange, the woman turned to them, who helped her back to the safe side of the railing. Once safe, Bon Jovi hugged the woman.
The Tennessean reported that the artist was on the bridge filming a music video for his song “The People’s House,” and the bridge remained open to the public during the shoot. Bon Jovi has not yet made any public statements regarding the incident.
