They want to offer a sports textile that is more responsible and more respectful of the environment. Two young business school graduates Toulouse Business School have just created their brand of environmentally responsible clothing for runners, called
Bomolet.
The two Toulouse residents have thus imagined a running t-shirt, made in France, made from recycled plastic bottles. Until February 11, the Toulouse start-up launched a crowdfunding campaign to launch the production of their green jerseys.
A student project turned entrepreneurial
“After a humanitarian experience in the Philippines for our studies, we really became aware of plastic pollution and deplorable working conditions in this country, which gave us the will to change our behavior when we returned to France,” says Flavien Thouroude , one of the two founders of Bomolet. After the small daily gestures, we wanted to find an alternative to the design of sportswear because 99% of them are made on the other side of the planet, with a strong impact on the environment ”.
In May 2020, the two students launched a petition for the establishment of a “social score” on clothing, as in food. Nearly 30,000 people sign it, confirming the desire of Toulouse residents to create eco-friendly clothing. For eight months, the two students work on their T-shirts and join their school’s incubator, TBSeeds.
Twelve recycled bottles for one mesh
To make a mesh for their running jersey, 12 recycled bottles are needed. “We collect the plastic bottles in a factory in Turin, then the made-to-measure T-shirt is designated in Villeurbanne, knitted in Bourgoin-Jallieu, made in Bobigny and the finishes are carried out in Montfermeil and Saint-Etienne, details Flavien Thouroude. The production of our mesh requires 94% less water and 64% less energy than a virgin polyester mesh. “
The crowdfunding campaign will already produce 294 running jerseys. The start-up Bomolet has exceeded its initial objective and will already be able to launch a new garment and a new color. The first parts will be delivered in May 2021.
