Janno Lieber, head of MTA, the agency that manages the New York subway system, speaking to The Guardian he praised the passengers who tried to help the victims of the attack and said that his employees, after the shooting, gathered as many people as they could on a train leaving the station to put them out of harm’s way. Lieber noted that all of this reminded him of warehouse workers distributing water to people fleeing or stranded by the 9/11 terrorist attacks: “We saw New Yorkers in a difficult and emergency situation helping each other,” Lieber said. .
