Bombed with insults, Mila’s Twitter account closed for … harassment

Lhe world upside down! Bombed with hundreds of messages of insults and threats a few seconds after posting on Twitter one of her … kindergarten drawings representing a chocolate bread, Mila saw her account suspended without further legal action, Sunday, March 14 in the evening, shortly after 8 p.m. “Hello Mila, your magicalorrs account has been suspended for violating Twitter rules. Especially for violating the anti-harassment rules. You cannot target a person and harass them, or make another person do it. Please note that if you attempt to circumvent this measure by creating a new account, we will suspend it immediately ”.

It is by this laconic email (written in English) that the young high school student from Isère was informed of the decision of the social network, on which she is followed by 20,871 subscribers. A shame for his lawyer, Richard Malka: “The rule on Twitter is that victims are punished and stalkers rewarded; it works like that, Twitter, and I say bravo ”, quipped the one who is also the historical lawyer of Charlie Hebdo. A subscriber of the social network immediately published a rogue message suggesting that Mila’s account had been targeted in a concerted manner: “FC Sinje succeeded (sic) in suspending Mila’s account the resident (sic) convertible top! One bit less (sic) on the network ”.

“I had spent a quiet Sunday,” Mila tells the Point. “I had just found old drawings that I had made when I was little and I had fun posting one on Twitter. It represented a pain au chocolat and various objects with lots of mistakes in the title! I put my phone down and pick it up two minutes later to see the comments. There, I discovered ten odd messages with creepy messages. I don’t understand what’s going on and I show this to my mother. I block two or three accounts and refresh the thread; I then see messages by the hundreds, riddled with insults. I panic, thinking to myself that my account has probably been spammed by fake accounts intended to comment on my post en masse to harm me. I spent my account in private, but when I opened my mailbox, I had already received several insulting messages: “dirty bitch”, “shitty Islamophobe”. The usual stuff, what … Except that there, it was going very quickly ”, continues the young girl, still regularly threatened with death after having published, in January 2019, a video on Instagram in which she had criticized Islam in very crude terms, after having been insulted herself, which had led to her being kicked out of her high school.

“I was blocked outright”

“I put my account in public by asking the community for information on the famous FC Sinje, which seemed to have activated its network to attack me,” says Mila. “I admit, I called him a ‘frustrated virgin’, just as I replied to two guys who promised to rape me by telling them that it was I who was raping their God, which I sometimes do to annoy my haters (hateful enemies), when they threaten me too badly. A few minutes later, Twitter informed me that my account was closed. Normally, they justify their decision and point out the disputed messages. There, no explanation. I was blocked outright ”.

Ironically, another subscriber answering the sweet nickname of Reda (coca cherry) and bragging about having “blown up (the account of) Mila” received a congratulatory email from Twitter at 8:22 pm. “Hello, thank you for your reports. We suspended (Mila’s) account because it violated Twitter rules. We appreciate your help; Reports like yours are essential to making Twitter better. Thank you “.
