“Bomba” González will accompany Amanda Serrano in her great fight in New York

Saint John, 27 Jan. The world champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) at 108 pounds, Jonathan “Bomba” González, will accompany the Puerto Rican boxer Amanda Serrano in their important fight on February 4, at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Serrano, a seven-division world champion and current unified 126-pound champion, will meet Mexican Erika “Dinamita” Cruz that day.

“I have always been aware of Amanda’s career and I support her. Right now we are the world champions that Puerto Rico has and I will not miss this historic fight for anything in the world. It will be very exciting that night to accompany her,” said ‘Bomba’ González in a statement released this Friday by representatives of Serrano.

For his part, Serrano thanked González for his support and assured that “champions have to always be together, supporting each other.”

“In his interviews, he always mentions his support for me and women’s boxing. It is an honor to have him on my side for this important fight. On February 4 I go with everything, except fear,” he stressed.

At Madison Square Garden, Serrano will put his world titles from the World Boxing Organization, the International Boxing Federation, the World Boxing Council and the International Boxing Organization on the line.

Serrano only lacks a world title to become the first undisputed champion of Puerto Rican professional boxing, a feat that has not been achieved both in the women’s branch and in the historic men’s branch.

In an interview with EFE this week in New York, Serrano was confident that she will prevail by knockout in the fight against the Mexican Cruz to win all five titles.

“I have no doubt that the fight will end sooner. I have had the opportunity to beat boxers who (never) had been knocked out like Daniela Bermúdez before the limit,” said the boxer, who has won 30 of her 43 wins by KO.

In case of victory, after this fight against Cruz, the Puerto Rican could go for a rematch against the Irish Katie Taylor.

Serrano failed in her first opportunity to be undisputed in a division, when she lost a split decision to Taylor in the legendary fight at the Garden, which also made history because both carried purses of at least $1 million. EFE
