Bomb up! Today is the 111th edition of the famous Great Warsaw race
Today the bomb is going up – the 111th edition of the Great Warsaw Race – the famous race – begins. This is one of the most prestigious events in the Polish horse racing calendar. The first race started at noon, and the most important race, the Great Warsaw Race, started at 16:30.

Today, at the Służewiec Horse Racing Track, the famous Great Warsaw race takes place – one of the most prestigious events in the Polish horse racing calendar.
– For the second year in a row, it has listed status, which is a sign of quality in the world of horse racing, and only the most important races for Thoroughbred horses in Europe are honored with this status – says Jędrzej Puzyński from the Służewiec Track.
Queen of the Służewiec Races
In June, it was exactly 85 years since the bomb first went up on the Warsaw track. The Great Warsaw Race was established in 1895 by the then President of the Horse Racing Society in the Kingdom of Poland, Count August Potocki. Today it is the most popular race held at the Służewiec Track.
This weekend, after the end of the race, the mayor of Warsaw Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, will personally decorate the winning horses. They will receive a rug in the city’s colors, decorated with a panorama of Warsaw. Additionally, the winners will be decorated with a flower sash and rewarded with a basket full of apples.
Their owners, trainers and jockeys will also receive cups. After the decoration ceremony, there will be an honorary round around the paddock, during which the spectators gathered in the stands will applaud the winners.
Unique fashion and style
A visit to the Warsaw hippodrome is also an excellent opportunity to present interesting costumes, necessarily with headgear, referring to the fashion of the former capital.
– This year’s fashion theme is the 1920s–1940s, i.e. the pre-war and post-war period. We recommend dressing in this style. The most important element for racing fashion is, of course, the headgear, so you must not forget about it – Puzyński emphasizes.
During the Great Warsaw Festival you can not only visit a special racing fashion zone, but also take part in a competition for the most beautiful hat style.
More than racing
Wielka Warszawska is not only races, but also a rich accompanying program, which includes shows, exhibitions and numerous attractions. This is a great opportunity to feel the atmosphere of the former capital and enjoy a day full of excitement. It is also an opportunity to meet in a unique atmosphere and admire the best racing horses.
There are also a number of attractions for children on this day, including: artistic performances, a play zone and another edition of the Hobby Horse competition.
Entry to the Służewiec Track on October 6 is possible from 10:00. The first race starts at 12:00.
