The Eiffel Tower in Paris was evacuated twice on Saturday due to bomb threats. In both cases nothing suspicious was found during a search of the tower.
The first bomb threat was reported shortly after noon. The three floors of the tourist attraction were evacuated, including the tower’s restaurant and forecourt. The area was cordoned off and traffic was diverted. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service conducted extensive investigations but found nothing.
The monumental tower from 1889 was open to the public again around half past four, but four hours later, at 7:30 p.m., it was hit again. According to news site Actu17, which relies on a source close to the case, the bomb threat now came “not from the same place in the world” as the first. Again nothing was found. Visitors were allowed to go upstairs again around 9 p.m.
The last time the Paris monument was evacuated due to a bomb threat was in September 2020, when the reason was a telephone threat from a man who stated that he would “blow everything up” at the Eiffel Tower.
